Script

Romeo & Juliet Script. Gary Hoff & Steve Coe.
Duration: 40sec. Colour.
Draft 3. 14 May 2008.

We open on a wide shot of the Marine Parade and the steps and balcony above.

We see people walking by; a top of the underpass, one woman is dressed impeccably she has lovely flowing dress and her hair is flowing in the wind. We only she her from shoulders upwards.

She stops to look out and dream of her lover. The wind blows her hair she brushes this in a moment only briefly disturbing her dream.

Cut to street cleaner below he's noticed Juliet and is staring at her but still tries to carry on picking up rubbish with the claw he is using. The crisp packets and tine cans rolling and blowing in the wind. The crisp packets are all small and hard to get hold of, showing his frustration.

Juliet catches his gaze and is in an instant in love. She can't believe that under the dirty exterior there before her has appeared her lover.

Romeo drops his claw and abandons his refuse sack. He beckons Juliet, she reaches out for him.

They stare at one another.
Time passes and fade to black cut to,
an embrace and kiss you can see they are happy to be reunited again. They dance around each other to further look once again at themselves. (Romeo has ballet tights on and has abandoned his day-glo jacket)

As he pulls away he notices her pregnant bump. He looks puzzled but walks off into the distance with his Juliet all the same.

In an instant all the people (extras/dancers) around them and behind start an amazing dance in celebration as they walk forward towards camera.

DRAFT2--

Open on a wide shot of the city and the underpass. Graffiti and city rubbish 'decorate' the area.

An impatient ROMEO collects litter unhappily, as he waits for his sweetheart to appear. His surroundings; grass, concrete, litter, sky and passing people all reflect his dour mood.

But then out of the corner of his eye, he spots JULIET. She is impeccable, and wears an elegant flowing dress. Her hair and jewels are perfect. At this point, JULIET is only seen from her breasts upwards.

ROMEO’s mood is now enlightened as JULIET moves like a princess up above.

Now, ROMEO’S world is enriched with colour. The litter kicks up around him and dances in the air, the colour of the grass has become more vibrant, the dull stream is alive as beams of light dance from the sun, shadows from trees and other objects are full of life and are dancing too. Accompanied by all of this is upbeat, operatic music.

The PEOPLE who pass by up above are ignited too and dance happily in time with the music. Some mouth the words from this engaging piece.

ROMEO stares longingly at JULIET but still tries to carry on picking up rubbish with the claw he is using.

Juliet catches his gaze and is instantly in love. She can't believe that under the dirty underpath there before her has appeared her lover.

ROMEO drops his claw and abandons his refuse sack. He beckons Juliet, she reaches out for him.

He climbs the wall to reach Juliet.

They embrace and kiss. You can see they are happy to be reunited again. They mirror their surroundings and ballet around each other, taking a long-lasting look at one another.

As ROMEO pulls away he notices her pregnant bump. He looks puzzled but walks off into the distance with his Juliet all the same.
